Ahhh thank you, this is the most helpful needle felting tutorial I've seen around. I just need to find the materials though plush making things are very rare here, maybe I'll have to get them online.

A lot of yarn shops these days will carry local wool, so if you're able to obtain that, you can also always try doing dying yourself :D There are also a lot of sellers on sites like etsy that have the supplies; there might be some near you!

There are no Yarn shops here either XD But I when I go to WallMart to buy some craft things I will see if they have wool. I saw some starter kits on Ebay but omg they are too expensive for me right now. I think it's cheaper to just buy the stuff separate I dunno.

I've never had much luck with major craft stores, because they tend to have small amounts of wool at high prices - hence the Etsy love :) There's also livingfelt.com, which has good prices for materials, though I don't know if they ship outside the US.

How durable are the end products? Like, if it was given to a younger child, would it hold up to the daily wear and tear?

They can be made pretty darn durable - it tends to be the more you use the needle, the better it sticks together.

Still, if there are any small pieces attached like the beak is on this one, I wouldn't particularly suggest giving it to a younger child. They also tend to be smaller - they can make great mobiles and the like, but otherwise I'd say this type of felting is more aimed at a slightly older audience :)

It's not that different from the plastic-based felt fabric you'll find in stores - just softer and more woolly :)

i made a animal shaped thing out of "cat wool" using my fingers. is that like felting?

Not quite - the idea of felting is that you're using tiny barbs in the needles to "knot" all the wool together. While friction from fingers can easily bind cat fur (I've done that, too ;)), the strength and permanence aren't on the same scale, and the way the fibers are tied together is a bit different :)

Needle Felting can be quite time consuming - the whole thing took me in the vicinity of two hours (including photos), but I was also watching a movie. As you get more practice, you'll find you're able to move the needle faster and faster, especially on non-detail work :)

Thanks! :) Though I would like to know something, can you needle felt with dog hair? I have a lot of my dog's hair but the needle dosen't seem to work on it. Thank you so much! ^^

I believe the fibers of dog hair, unless you have a large collection of the soft underfur some breeds have, will not properly work with the needle - the physical make-up of the hairs is different from that of wool, so the tiny barbs do almost nothing. Wool is easy to pull apart or stick together in a number of ways, whereas dog fur tends toward short, individual wiry hairs that don't have that natural instinct to stick together or mat.

I have found that the soft underfur of some cats will work reasonably well (although not nearly as well as wool) because it does have that proclivity; it's meant to keep the cat warm while the overcoat shields. Dogs don't tend to have the distinct variations of fur, though, and both have dander - meaning anything made from either one could easily set off allergies.

Okay, thanks. Yeah, I read somewhere that you could needle felt out of dog hair, but I guess that it was wrong, that or they used a diffren type of fur. Well thank you anyways! ^^
